I’m very excited to share the unique photography of Andrew Pinkham. At first, I thought I was looking at an old oil painting, but Andrew uses his camera, creative lighting and post production work to recreate the look and feel of classic paintings.
From Andrew: “I was raised in Chester County, PA, a rural area with rolling hills and pastures that were inhabited by farm animals. As a child, I visited houses that had grand, opulent paintings portraying their ancestors and creature companions. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but many years later, I see it has had a profound influence on my work today.
Five years ago, I set out to create a body of work that not only draws on my childhood influences, but also my passion for animals and portraiture. Well known artists such as George Stubbs and John James Audubon have impacted my work in a big way. These historic influences are offset by modern means of fabrication using photography and software. I want to challenge beliefs of what we think of as historical or authentic, whether it was made today or a hundred years ago. To blur the lines of time and to engage the viewer in how we interpret history itself.”
I can’t think of a better gift for a pet owner who appreciates vintage furnishings than a custom pet portrait by Andrew Pinkham. You can see more of Andrew’s pet photography here.
