While the majority of posts on the Daily Dog Tag feature photography, I also love other forms of pet portraits as well. Erika from Hot Dog Digital Pet Art specializes in custom pop art. I love the bright colors and the fun feeling of these portraits!
Erika and her husband, Tom Pitera, have 2 miniature Dachshunds and 3 rescue cats.
Lexie (black and tan) is 5 1/2 years old and Logan (the white pie bald) is 6 years old. Aren’t they adorable? I have a bit of a crush on Logan!
From Erika: “Just over a year ago, we started volunteering with a local organization called Pawsitive Shelter Photography and have since become members of HeARTS Speak, as well. We wanted to make a difference in our community, and we couldn’t think of a better way to do that than to help dogs and cats get adopted. Since starting, Tom and I alone have photographed more than 100 dogs and almost 200 cats. As rewarding as our efforts, it can also be very difficult. It is hard to develop an emotional attachment while you’re working with the animals and not know whether or not they’ll ever find the loving forever homes they deserve. I wish I could say that every picture leads to a happy ending, but we’re a long way from reaching that goal. That’s why organizations like Pawsitive Shelter Photography and HeARTs Speak are so valuable.”
In addition to volunteering at shelters, Erika generously donates 10% of her sales to helping animals. She is currently donating to Central Oklahoma Humane Society to help with the disaster relief for pets displaced by tornadoes.
Erika sells her art on her site as well as on Etsy. Just in time for Father’s Day, Erika offers gift certificates! From now until July 15, Erika is offering a 20% discount if you use the coupon code “DAILYDOGTAG”. In addition to wall prints, Erika offers custom i phone cases.
Erika has a terrific blog that she updates with her latest illustrations! Be sure to check out their pet photography blog as well!
About Thomas Pitera Photography: Based in Orlando, FL, Tom and Erika are pet and product photographers. They volunteer their time photographing rescue animals and are members of HeARTs Speak. In addition to Logan and Lexie, they have three rescue cats.
