Happy Thanksgiving! If my dogs could talk, I’m pretty sure that they would say they are thankful for NomNomNow.
I say it all the time, but I genuinely believe pets are family! My dogs mean the world to me, so I’m excited to be feeding them NomNomNow and hopeful that it will help them live longer, healthier lives. In case you don’t know, NomNomNow delivers fresh, gently cooked food for your dogs right to your door.
My NomNomNow order arrived on the day I expected it. Although it was over 80 degrees here, the food was still perfectly fresh and safely cool thanks to the insulated packaging and included ice packs.
Since I am a monthly subscriber, and I have three dogs, there was a lot of food. Each dog received 12 transition packets and 42 full meal pouches. In addition to the food, the box had three ice packs, a package of chicken jerky treats, samples of different flavors, an introduction pamphlet, and a stay cold liner. All of the packaging is recyclable.
The food will stay fresh for eight days in the refrigerator. So I put all the transition packets into the refrigerator as well as two complete meals for each dog. Then I put 14 meals for each pup into grocery bags and put them in the freezer. I decided that for me, it would be easiest to take one bag out at the beginning of each week.
I checked with the help desk at NomNomNow, and if I forget to defrost the food, I can thaw it in a bowl of warm water before giving it to my dogs.
Typically, a new subscriber can expect to receive transition packets that graduate in amounts of NomNomNow given to their dogs. You gradually replace the food you are currently feeding with NomNomNow to avoid digestive issues. Two days of 25 % NomNomNow and 75 % current food, diet, two days of 50 % NomNomNow, and 50 % regular diet, two days of 75% NomNomNow and 25% regular food, before transitioning to a full meal of NomNomNow.
However, all the packets I received were 50% transition packets. Nelly and Sophie have eaten high-quality kibble all of their lives, but even at 50% to start with, NomNomNow did not upset their digestive tracts.
I gave my dogs their transition packages mixed in with half their usual amount of kibble for three days.
I’ll never forget the expression of bewilderment and pure joy when my first child had that first piece of chocolate cake.
I sort of feel like Nelly experienced the same thing when she had her first bowl of Tasty Turkey Fare.
She loved it!
But I also think she’s a little disappointed in me for not giving her food this tasty her whole life.
There was no question in my mind that Theo would be super happy. We are pretty sure that his former family used to feed him their leftovers after dinner. Unfortunately, their feeding habits pushed Theo over the line towards obesity.
Of course, Theo loves it! He is eating the Heartland Beef Hash.
I mentioned previously that Theo has hip dysplasia. He received six treatments of laser therapy from the vet, which helped him a lot! Theo is back to doing the things he loves, including playing tug of war, running around, and he can even jump up on the sofa.
While I give most of the credit for his increased mobility to laser therapy, I think his food is helping him too. I’ve noticed that all of my dogs seem to be moving better.
Unlike kibble, where you pretty much have to take the manufacturer’s word for what is in their product, you can visually identify most of the ingredients in NomNomNow.
The Heartland Beef Hash contains:
Ground beef: Protein, vitamins & minerals for strong bones
Potatoes: Energy producing & potassium-packed
Carrots: Vitamin A – and more – for keeping eyes healthy
Peas: Fiber, Vitamin A, C, K & B6, and minerals galore
Egg: Exactly the protein, calcium, iron & zinc dogs need
NomNomNutrient Mix: Expertly formulated nutrition blend
Fish oil: Omega Fatty Acids for a healthy coat
Theo will eat any food item (and some non-food items!) He has never turned up his nose at anything edible, but I am wondering if he’ll be more discerning now.
Sophie is eating the Egg & Veggie medley, and she’s a fan! This food is so fresh and fancy that I feel like I should be serving her breakfast in bed.
She couldn’t wait to get her paws on it.
I can’t blame her; it is sourced in the USA and prepared in NomNomNow’s FDA approved kitchen.
The meals are perfectly portioned based on a veterinarian nutritionist’s recommendations and individually packaged. Dr. Justin Shmalberg, a pet food nutritionist, developed all the recipes.
Now that my dogs have entirely transitioned to NomNomNow, they won’t require an adjustment period if I change them to a different recipe. Although Sophie is happy on her vegetarian diet, I don’t know if I’m comfortable giving it to her exclusively for an extended period. (This is the only NomNomNow recipe not recommended for puppies.)
However, NomNomNow recommends rotating diets no more than every week.
After a couple of weeks, my dogs are still excited about NomNomNow. They look forward to mealtime more than ever.

So far, NomNomNow has met my expectations. Their customer service has been excellent, and more importantly, my dogs are thriving on it. With one kid in college and another going off to college next year, I don’t know if I can afford to keep feeding it to my dogs, but I know they want me to.

Honestly, I’m hungry looking at this food! I think it’s great that you received transition packages and by the looks of it Nelly, Theo and Sophie are very excited about their meals! Do you find a big difference in the cost of this food compared to others?
Beth says
They really love it. My dogs have always enjoyed their meals, but they are crazy about NomNomNow. I think it is less expensive than another fresh delivered brand, but I haven’t checked all the details.
Dash Kitten Crew says
I am sure you need to transition a pet to new food. Like us with Harvey’s renal food. Step by step with that ONE important ingredient PATIENCE!!
Beth says
Yep, the transition packages from NomNomNow make it easy to switch from any type of dog food by gradually introducing NomNomNow.
Kitty Cat Chronicles says
What a great service! It sounds like it makes food prep for pets super easy, and I love how nutritious it is! Only the best for our babies! Because we all know our pets eat better than we do… well, at least mine do. LOL! Thanks for the great review!
Beth says
Since we switched to NomNomNow, my dogs are eating better than me.
Jill says
I have never heard of this but man it looks GOOD! I have always been afraid to change foods but the transition package makes it enticing!
Beth says
The transition packets do make it super simple, and if you have a dog who has a very sensitive digestive tract, just let them know when you order and they will create transition meals for a more gradual adjustment period.
Jana Rade says
I usually just stay away from any sponsored posts regarding food. But this food does look great. So glad there are some good options out there now.
Beth says
I really appreciate your feedback because I know that you are very knowledgeable about dog health and nutrition.
Tenacious Little Terrier says
It’s great that it’s helping with their mobility! Diet can make such a difference.
Beth says
It is amazing how much more agile Nelly is since we switched. She’s roughly the size of Mr. N and is 10 years old. Now she is jumping higher than she did as a young dog.
Michelle says
I like that they send you transition packs, I always found that difficult when changing food for one of my dogs, who was a terrible fussy eater! Its great to see more companies creating real food for dogs rather than kibble.
Beth says
The transition packets were pretty helpful. My dogs adjusted without any issue at all.
Sweet Purrfections says

THIS looks absolutely incredible. Wow.
I wish they had it in the uk. What are the other flavors available? The beef looks amazing
Beth says
Besides the beef, there is a vegetarian option as well as pork, chicken, and turkey.
Sandy Kubillus says
Many people from BlogPaws are talking about NomNom. I should give it a try. I’m starting to think that I should change to a different type of dog food besides what I have been feeding for years.
Beth says
My dogs are really loving it! Their coats are shinier, and their eyes are brighter, but I’m most impressed with their improved mobility.

Sorry to hear about Theo’s hip dysplasia but fantastic that laser therapy is helping! As a mom to two large breed mutts this is something I am very aware of and hoping not to see. The Heartland Beef Mash is a great anti-inflammatory choice for him. We love NomNomNow in our house!
Cathy Armato says
First off I have to say that Nelly looks so much like my girl Phoebe, especially in the first photo! She is so beautiful. This food looks really healthy, I love that they include transition packets to help make the switch to their food! That’s so helpful.

I was interested to find this while browsing. It is great to find a sensible and well-thought out step by step approach that reassures the dog owner when transitioning to an important new food. The food sounds fantastic and healthier than so much stuff available now so ‘getting these critical first steps right is important.
Great job and I will share the Nom Nom Now message!!
