We hope you had a fantastic summer! September is a time for new beginnings. It is a popular month for weddings, school starts and hopefully, these awesome senior dogs will their new forever homes. Madelyn from City Dog Photography shared these wonderful portraits of adoptable dogs.
From Madelyn: “I enjoy giving back to my community by volunteering. I photograph adoptable and homeless dogs in need of forever homes. Years ago, I began by going to the local shelters weekly to photograph homeless dogs in desperate need of better profile pictures. As everyone knows, these profile pictures can make a big difference in a dog’s life. These profile pictures are what many times draws in people to want to find out more about that particular dog. When working with adoptable dogs, my goal is always first and foremost to get a great headshot of the dog that captures their personality. When working with senior dogs, I particularly like showcasing their soulful eyes. There is an immense difference from looking inside a young pups eyes and the eyes of a senior dog. When I look into those old souls, I see wisdom and gentleness oozing within them that only comes with age. I see a deep desire of them wanting to want find a forever home, a companion to love and settle down with…someone to share their final years with. I know firsthand sharing a home with a senior dog is truly a wonderful experience. They make the best companions anyone can ask for. I’m so happy to be able to work with such a wonderful organization like The Old Dog House, which focuses especially on giving old dogs a second chance. Here are just a few of the old dogs available for adoption through The Old Dog House that I got to meet and photograph! Meet Allie Bea, Gabe, Joey, Miami, Smokey, and Winston!
Allie Bea is always smiling. She’s a happy girl that seems to really love life. Along with her constant smile, her tail is always wagging, too! We think she’s about 10 years old, but she has the energy of a younger dog. But, Allie Bea sure doesn’t need marathon walks. Maybe just a stroll around the neighborhood then some snuggling on the couch. She knows basic commands and is obedient. She’ll do just about anything for a treat! Allie Bea gets along with dogs, but we do not know how she is around cats or kids. She really loves people and just wants to be involved in family activities. She is spayed, heartworm negative, current on vaccinations, heartworm, and flea preventatives, and microchipped.
Gabe wants to play, play, play! He’s quite active and loves to fetch. Unfortunately, Gabe is heartworm positive, so playing and fetching must be kept to a minimum until he completes his heartworm treatment. We think Gabe is somewhere between 6 and 8 years old. He knows many commands and will do just about anything for a treat! Gabe likes other dogs, but he sure loves people. He also loves stuffies and toys almost as much as people and treats! He will need a family that will take him walking and play fetch with him. Gabe is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.
Joey is good with dogs, kids, and adults! He is quiet, affectionate, obedient, eager to please and intelligent.
Miami is a very sweet and affectionate girl that adores people. She wags and smiles when she see you and just wants to be close. We think Miami is about 13 years old, but she has the activity level of a younger dog. She loves to go walking, but equally enjoys just hanging out with her people. She lives with other dogs and seems to enjoy their company. We’re not sure how she is with cats or children, but with her gentle and submissive personality, Miami would probably be fine with both.
Miami is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and on heartworm and flea preventatives. Recent blood work showed Miami is in very good health. She is adaptable and would fit well into a variety of living situations.
Smokey is a younger Old Dog and we think he’s about 6 years old. He has a happy-go-lucky attitude and is usually smiling from ear to ear. Smokey is energetic, likes to play and go walking, but is well past the young adult stage. So, he settles down quickly and loves to snuggle on the couch. Smokey likes other dogs and would probably enjoy the company of one in his new home. We’re not sure how he is around cats. He is treat-motivated and we are working hard on teaching basic commands to him.
Despite his younger age, Smokey does have arthritis. He gets laser therapy every couple of weeks to help with the pain and inflammation. Otherwise, he is a very healthy and happy dog. Smokey is neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.
Winston is good with dogs and older children and adults. He is leash trained and does well in the car. Winston like to play fetch and go swimming. He is eager to please, even tempered and affectionate.
