November is officially Adopt A Senior Pet Month. I know that many of us cannot adopt or foster another pet for one reason or another, but we still want to help homeless senior pets. I am delighted to be able to share this incredible project from pet photographer Stacey Gammon. All of these dogs were helped by a rescue called The Mr. Mo Project. Stacey aptly describes The Mr. Mo Project as giving “the gift of golden years.”
The Mr. Mo Project saves senior dogs who have ended up in a shelter. They not only take the dogs out of the shelter, but they also provide medical care and food for the rest of the dog’s life. The dogs live out their lives with dignity in a forever foster home, knowing they are safe and loved. The family can focus on taking care of the dog while the Mr. Mo Project funds all the medical costs for the rest of the dog’s life.
The Mr. Mo Project also offers help for individuals who have a senior dog but are not able to afford their medical care. I can’t imagine anything sadder for a pet parent than having to take your dog to the shelter because you can’t afford to pay her medical bills.
If you aren’t in a position to adopt or foster a dog right now, I hope you’ll consider donating to the Mr. Mo Project or sharing their information to help senior dogs live out their lives comfortably.
You can see the more of these beautiful photos on Stacey’s pet photography blog. Like Stacey Gammon Pet Photography on Facebook to see more of her fabulous projects!

We adopted our senior Chihuahua in Feb. 2013. He’s a grumbly little guy but we’ll be devastated when he’s gone. I think senior dogs will be our primary companions in the future – they’re amazing!

I haven’t adopted a senior dog yet, but one day I hope I will. I think I am done with puppies after adopting a 4 year old awesome dog.

What a wonderful project. I cannot fathom turning a senior dog over to a shelter although it happens every single day. It breaks my heart.
Beth says
While I can’t either, I know that some people simply don’t have the money to pay for medical care for themselves or their dogs. I know it must be devastating for people who surrender their pets to shelters because they can no longer afford to care for the animal. I think it is wonderful how the Mr. Mo Project helps both senior dogs in the shelter as well as senior dogs with families unable to pay for the dog’s medical care.

Mr. N’s foster will take on hospice fosters sometimes. She’s amazing!
Beth says
That is wonderful! After spending time with my dad while he was bedridden with cancer in a hospice situation, I see how hospice is less sad and more of a gift to all involved. At some point in my life, I’d love to be able to be a forever foster for senior dogs.

What an awesome project!! I couldn’t afford another senior cat (I have two with special needs right now) but I could definitely take in another cat if his/her medical bills were covered like the Mr. Mo Project does for senior dogs! That’s really amazing and heartwarming that this organization exists. 🙂
Beth says
If I hear of any projects like this for senior cats I will let you know!

What a wonderful organization! It is a great thing that they can put these dogs with a foster that will care for them the rest of their lives. It has to be a relief for the dogs. These photos are wonderful too!
