No matter how much time we have with a loved one, it is never enough. No matter how old your pet is, I hope you’ll get some professional portraits of her. They will become more precious with time. Senior dog, Grizzly, spent a summer afternoon with Mei Lin Barral Photography when she was 17 years old. Grizzly lived to be a remarkable 18 and a half years old.
From Mei: “Grizzly is an absolute sweetheart. Grizzly lived an amazing life. She found her human because she was the runt of the litter from a questionable backyard breeder and her human couldn’t leave her there knowing that. Grizzly loved to play with her tennis ball, and while it was harder for her because she had aches and pains all over, she managed to have some fun in the sun for her session.
When she wasn’t outside sunbathing, she spent her time waiting at the top of the stairs waiting for her humans to come home.
During her session, her human recounted fond tales of Grizzly.
Senior dog sessions are always so heartwarming and bittersweet. There was so much love shown between Grizzly and her human. It was a sad farewell to Grizzly, but it’s wonderful to remember her on that warm summer day.” Follow Mei Lin Barral on Instagram.

What a lovely tribute and memory of Grizzly. And you’re right, no matter how long they are with us, it is never long enough.

Especially as my older dog gets older, senior dogs really pull at my heartstrings. Grizzly is adorable and I have no doubt that her and her people brought each other a lifetime of joy.

Grizzly was such an adorable dog, and no way did she look her age!! I think no matter how many pictures you take, you never think you have enough. I lost my dog in May when she was around 17, and although over the years I took pictures, especially the past year or so, it makes me sad knowing I can’t take any more. Having them done by a professional is a great idea, and these are absolutely beautiful. I’m sure Grizzly’s mom is so happy she has these incredible images to reflect on.

This is so sweet! Now that we have kids, taking picture of our sweet dog has fallen on the priority list! Your post has inspired me to take a few extra pictures of her and eventually arrange a photo shoot. Thank you for sharing!

Grizzly looked so much like Ruby. They even have the same tail!
18 years is a lovely long life, but it is never enough time …and I am sure her family misses her so very much.

Grizzly looks so sweet. It is so hard to lose one of our beloved companions. They sure do take a chunk of our hearts with them. I love the idea of the senior photoshoot. As a photographer, I do have a collection of my dogs’ lives from puppyhood to senior years and am so glad I do. Losing my Gibson was devastating, but I am so thankful to have the photos and portraits to look back on and have those moments to get lost in the wonderful memories of the days they were taken. Photos are such a special keepsake, one of the heart. <3 Grizzly's photos are so beautiful. I especially love the one with the tennis ball. Run free, sweet baby, and may you be chasing tennis balls and rolling in the evergreen grass in the meadows at the Rainbow Bridge.
