About this time of year, we are tired of snow, unless its some place gorgeous like Alberta, Canada. Add a beautiful rehomed German Shepherd to the scene and thanks to Melanie Bennett Photography, I’m still liking winter.
From Melanie: “I am very fortunate to have been able to grow up on a beautiful farm in Alberta, but consider myself even more fortunate to have had parents who nurtured my love for animals since a very young age. When I think back to my childhood, my fondest memories include our family dogs right there beside me- exploring the woods with my brother and I, playing with us, protecting us, and instilling in us a love and compassion for animals so strong.
There is nothing quite like the bond between a dog and their family. With the exception of one adopted lab cross, my family has always had German Shepherds. My parents’ last dog passed away and when they felt ready to adopt another one into their family, we began the search.
Not long after, they found Tasha. She belonged to an elderly lady who had suddenly passed away, and her husband, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s, was unable to care for her any longer. Although it was very hard to let her go, the couple’s daughter was seeking the perfect family to adopt her. She warned my parents that Tasha didn’t react well to strangers, but the moment they met her, Tasha loved them instantly. Shocked, the couple’s daughter began to cry. Upon talking with the elderly man more, they discovered that his son and grandson ironically shared the same names as my dad and brother! It was as though it was meant to be. While Tasha’s old family still comes to visit her, she now enjoys life with my parents on their farm. At just over 2 years old, she is very energetic and loving, and is learning new tricks all of the time. (In some of my images you will see her “Sitting Pretty”, which is one of my favourite tricks that she does). The last time I was in town visiting my family, there was a huge snow storm overnight. The following morning was absolutely breathtaking. The ground was blanketed in soft, freshly fallen snow and the golden sunlight shone through the tree branches. I took Tasha and decided to go for a morning walk and capture some images of her along the way!”
How awesome is it that Tasha’s previous family still comes to visit her? It makes me so happy to know she has two families who love and care for her! Be sure to check out Melanie’s blog and Facebook page to see more of her photography.
