Last Friday I shared a single image from Michelle Gardella from her upcoming book, River Story. I am so happy to share more of these beautiful and spiritual images of Max and his girl, Jakkeyln.
From Jakkeyln: “My husband and I adopted Max in April of 2011 from Mountain Rottie Rescue of New York. We were his third family. His previous adopter had fallen on hard times and was giving him back to the rescue. And, although we didn’t know the full story we heard he was rescued after he was found sitting beside his guardian’s body who had passed. The day we came to meet him with our other dog Pickles ( she has since passed), Max literally just jumped in our car . His rescuer told us it was by far one of the easiest adoptions she had ever witnessed.. As far as spirituality goes I’d like to think something greater than ourselves made it so he came to be with us. Kind of cheesy but if we are being honest I think of that everyday.
Michelle and I have collaborated on a few projects for River Story. I run a small wedding and event floral business, Jakkelyniris. I spent most of my winter making flower crowns and then putting them on the dog. She had seen a few I posted on my Facebook business page. They are silly but some of my favorites. When I met Michelle down at the river for her family session to bring a crown I realized it was at the same river I’d been going to as a kid.
The day she shot My River Story with Max I broke down. I remember bringing Max to the same River on a hike right after we adopted him. He was still a little leery of nature as he’d always been a city dog. There he is my constant companion. “
Be sure to follow Michelle on Facebook as she continues to photograph and write River Story. If you are inspired by these photos of Max and Jakkelyn, I hope you’ll consider donating to Michelle’s kickstarter and share it.
