Today I’m joining “Black and White Sunday” hosted by Sugar the Golden Retriever and Dachshund Nola. Wisconsin photographer Sara Marie had a fun session with this awesome family of four. I loved these black and white images.
From Sara Marie: “Earlier in this summer, I had a gorgeous family that consisted of two dogs as their children. The session took place at Lake Park in Downtown Milwaukee and quickly became one of my favorite sessions as we were taking walks around the park and doing tricks in the open grass area along Lake Michigan.”
From Mara: “Kahlua (a pure bred Plott Hound) is the independent lover (with the cropped tail). She is approximately 5 years old. We adopted her from a Milwaukee dog rescue. We adopted her when she was 1 year old. Unfortunately they didn’t know much of her history, but we did know that she was rescued in Indiana. She was with a owner that abused her and she ended up being a stray and put into a kill shelter. She was skiddish when you had items in your hand and would run away and hide in dark corners. Since being with our family for about 4 years she has truly become our “first child”. She loves to cuddle, walk, swim, and watch over our niece and nephews when they come over to play. My husband and I call her our ‘Beauty Queen.’
Bourbon (a Plott Hound/Rottweiler mix) is the social butterfly. He is 2 years old. My husband and I rescued him from a kill shelter in Illinois near Chicago. His former family gave him up when he was 6 months old because they felt he was a sick and could no longer take care of him or wanted to pay any medical bills. We later found out that he was malnourished because the family fed him Ramen Noodles rather then dog food. When we rescued him, he was extremely under weight and needed some training (note- he was never sick and just needed to be put on regular dog food). Kahlua, our older dog, took him under her wing and helped us with the potty training, walking’s, and special tricks. Finally after a year Bourbon put on 20 lbs and looks healthy. He is a heart breaker with his teddy bear eyes who loves to cuddle with everyone and anyone. (He thinks he’s a lap dog). Our dogs are our children and we would do anything for them.”
Sara Marie is currently hosting a Valentine’s Day Couple Contest. You can see more of her work on her Facebook page.
