I feature a lot of lifestyle sessions because they resonate with me, but there is something pretty amazing about a studio session too. I love this one photographed by Terran Bayer of Westway Studio.
From Terran: “Little Miss Judy is the ultimate rescue success story. A few years ago, she was abandoned at a high-kill shelter in a small desert town located pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Sadly, many of the dogs who are left at this shelter are euthanized due to a lack of space. Small dogs are especially at-risk here, as they are less wanted in this part of the country.
Enter a group of individuals — I call them the Guardian Angels — who made the 3-hour drive (one-way) one day every week to bring these lonely dogs food and blankets, groom them, and even bring some back to San Diego to find permanent homes. For every dog they brought back to San Diego, they had to pay an adoption fee, which was around $80 at the time. As you can imagine, that got very costly, very quickly. Many friends, family, and clients of these Guardian Angels wanted to help, and would give money to cover the adoption fees.
As fate would have it, my mom and I made a donation right around the same time a wonderful little long-haired Chihuahua mix was left at the shelter. A few days later, the Guardian Angels made their weekly trek up to the shelter and found this sweet little beauty. They knew she didn’t have a chance there but they would be able to find a home for her in San Diego, so they scooped her up, paid her adoption fee, and brought her back to a foster home. Thanks to our donation, the Guardian Angels named this little sweetie after my mom: Judy!
Around the same time, a good friend of mine and her family decided they wanted to welcome a new dog into their home. They knew of the work the Guardian Angels were doing, and contacted them. My friend and her family went to meet another dog but it turned out not to be a perfect fit. As luck — or fate — would have it, little Judy was staying with the same foster family. Well, wouldn’t you know, my friend saw Judy and just knew, she was their dog!
Now, Judy enjoys being the princess of the house. She loves her family so much and I think she knows just how lucky she is that they found her.”
You can see more of Judy’s studio session on Terran’s blog. If you don’t already follow Westway Studio on Facebook, you should! In addition to wonderful pet sessions, Terran photographs some amazing adoptable dogs.
Update: I just learned that Judy passed away in a tragic accident recently. Her family is absolutely heartbroken. I’m sending healing thoughts and love their way.
