This weekend my mom mentioned she had watched Dogs 101 and learned about the Icelandic Sheepdog. I responded with “Oh I’m featuring a couple this week.” Which then turned into a discussion of which of us had ever met an Icelandic Sheepdog in person, turns out in our family the answer was zero. Thanks to Kelli Taylor from Fur Kids by Purple Tree Photography for these gorgeous studio photos!
From the owner: “Jeni is a five year old Icelandic Sheepdog that was rescued from a poor breeding situation in Minnesota. She’s a bit anxious and sensitive but has made huge strides since we brought her home and now competes in agility, rally and we dabble in herding (though she knows what she is doing way better than I do). She lives up to her breed reputation of being loud but makes up for it by being extremely sweet with her family and canine siblings.”
Asta is an eleven month old Icelandic Sheepdog that I show in conformation and babysit from time to time. She was imported from Iceland so she is quite a world traveler! She is very spunky and also quite loud, and an absolute natural at herding.
Snoopy is an older (eight or nine, maybe?) mix from Indianapolis Animal Control… he was rescued from a hoarding situation with heartworm. He was supposed to be a “foster” but it was only a few days before we knew we would keep him. He was my first dog and we have learned a lot together. He is kind of an old grouch but loves to cuddle and loves food, and tolerates all the fosters we bring into the house. Snoopy enjoys lure coursing.
Bauer is a two year old Great Pyrenees mix who was originally brought up from Georgia as a puppy by a Michigan based rescue. He is a therapy dog with a local pet therapy organization and has competed in agility and lure coursing. He loves other dogs and loves to play and is just a happy goofball most of the time.
