This family photo session from Good Morrow Photography with Gunner, the German Shepherd, and his humans radiates love and happiness. I wish every dog had a life like his!
From Natalie: “Michael and Casey wanted to get a dog that would be loyal, trainable, and great with kids. They got that and more! Gunner loves his parents so much; he will even jump into Dad’s lap if he loses sight of him for too long. Gunner is a fun loving, playful, well trained German Shepherd!”
From Casey: “We were dying to get a dog and wanted one that would be loyal, trainable, and great with kids. What we got is so much more, Gunner loves his parents so much it’s almost embarrassing at times.
Gunner is a badass German Shepherd with a corky loveable sweet side who will play fetch all day, jump for the water spraying out of the hose, or get way too excited about snow and then wake up between our pillows and snuggle all morning. And he’s so smart he knows just how to get his way with his pushover parents. Gunner is our first and only child at the moment, so we loved the idea of capturing these special moments with our pup.”
Dogs deserve the kind of life Gunner has, please don’t shop for puppies online or in pet stores. I was heartbroken to see this story about 450 German Shepherds, but sadly puppy mills are notorious for these kinds of conditions. Help put puppy mills out of business by adopting or only purchasing dogs from ethical breeders.

I always tell friends and family members not to shop from puppy mills (online or at pet stores) and I don’t either. I think it’s sad, the conditions, they have to live in, and I wouldn’t dare support them.

The first dog I owned as an adult was a German Shepard named Ben. He was huge but gentle. It became apparent that he was unhappy living in an apartment, so I gave him to a farmer. I’d see Ben around and he always remembered me, but when it was time to leave, he always went straight to the farmer.

What a good, happy dog! I a huge dog lover … I would have a dozen of them if people wouldn’t think I was crazy. So, instead, I just have two! I agree – never buy a dog from a puppy mill or pet store.
Swathi says

Couldn’t agree more that Gunner has the perfect family – so much love and joy! Definitely a big proponent of not buying, supporting mom and pop breeding as it often leads back to puppy mills. We’ve rescued one from a puppy mill – and it is was lot of dedicated loving work to help her. You go Gunner, continue being the goofy, loving doggo that you are!

German Shepherds were my first K9 love! When I was 14, I made friends with two local guard dogs of a business, one was a silver and black retired NYPD drug-sniffing K9. How I made friends was I’d go to the butcher shop a few doors down, ask the butcher for some bones, and then go feed the two guard dogs. Guess who became best friends?! When the owners were selling the business, they asked me if I wanted the German Shepherd since we had such a special bond. Of course I said “yes!” I took Mia home with me and used that favorite childhood line “Mom, Dad, look what followed me home!” My parents being the pet-loving folks they were, adopted her. We moved out of the city and to update New York where Mia, who my folks renamed Taffy, worked as a guard dog for my father’s business by night and lived the life of a family ranch Shepherd by day! I loved that girl! And to think she was once a tough working K9 police officer and yet adjusted to her new family life. When I married my husband, our first two dogs we adopted were German Shepherd mixes! I love Gunner’s name…and the photos are just beautiful! What a stunning dog he is!
