This week I chose to feature only rescue dogs in honor of bloggers unite to promote dog rescue. Gertrude is another great story of a dog finding the right forever home. She found her forever family through Pet Smart Charities. Her member of the family status is well established as Gertrude was included in a senior portrait session with Alice G Patterson Photography.
From Gertrude’s owner: I walked into Pet Smart to get something for the cats or the Guinea Pig and there was an adoption booth with a beautiful dog who wagged her tail when I looked at her. I walked away because it just wasn’t the right time to get a dog and looked at things for our other pets. I saw her again, she wagged her tail when I looked at her and she smiled. And there was something so familiar about her, I said to myself, ” well I’ve been wanting a dog for a long time” and I went to look. I walked her around the store, and I could see her fitting so well into our life. So I filled out the paper work and soon she was ours. The rescue thought she was a Shepherd Rottie mix and about 4 years old. And she has the most amazing ears. Sometimes they look like pigtails, sometimes they are sleek along her skull, sometimes one is up and one is flopped forward. Sometimes, when she is on alert they stand straight up in the air. And she is a little pigeon-toed in her back paws so she waddles like the geese in the Aristocats when she walks, but there’s no trace of that when she’s running. She has some impulse control issues, like wanting to eat cat food allll the time. And she is the personification of unconditional love. After a year or two, it occurred to me why she looked so familiar, she is the dog incarnation of Stella Luna the Bat, one of my daughter’s favorite books when she was young.
From Gertrude’s girl: “Ever since we adopted Gertrude 5 years ago, my life has really changed. It’s better and it’s funnier. She gets so excited about everything, like food every time and going for walks with my good friend and neighbor. She’s sweet and loyal and she loves me every minute of everyday unconditionally. I’m wicked glad to have had her all these years.”
I think its obvious Gertrude feels exactly the same way! You can see more of Alice’s photography on her blog.
