Every time I pop over to see what Terran Bayer from Westway Studio has been up to, I find at least one new dog to fall in love with. Callie is my most recent Westway Studio crush.
From Terran: “Callie and I first met a few years ago at a Blessing of the Animals event. Her mom and I kept in touch — and it’s a good thing because Callie ended up winning a session with me through a contest I was holding on my Facebook page!
Callie is a liver-spotted Dalmatian. She is a mama’s girl and as sweet as can be. e had our session in downtown San Diego around Petco Park. We walked all around the park area and found so many incredible backdrops. We even found a firehouse with a beautiful red door, which was so perfect for Little Miss Dalmatian Supermodel!
I had such a great time with Callie… and not just because she gave me kisses, kisses, and more kisses all throughout our session. She and her mom are such a great pair and were oh-so-much fun to work with!”
From Leah: “Callie is a 5 year old liver spotted Dalmatian, and it was love, or should I say lick at first sight when she was just 8 weeks old. I grew up with dogs, my parents were part of the show dog world, and I always loved the Dalmatian, not because of the movie, but because of several I met on the circuit. It wasn’t until almost 6 years ago that I was ready to have a dog in my life. I trolled the Dalmatian rescue sites, but at that time there weren’t any available. I found a breeder and the rest as they say is history.
I often tell people that there is a tiny human that lives inside Callie, because 95% of her expressions and sounds are human. When I drove to pick her up most of the litter was still there, although spoken for. The breeder had Callie in mind for me from the start, but there were two puppies and she’d let me choose which one. Callie made that choice for me. I sat down in the middle of the backyard, and there were 7 puppies tearing around. Callie made a beeline for me, and kept climbing all over me, chewing on my hair. From the moment I brought her home at 8 weeks she has kept me company, protected me, driven me nuts, made me laugh, and cost a fortune in food, toys, and vet bills. I wouldn’t trade her for the world, her unconditional love and presence has enriched my life in ways I can’t express.
Part of having a Dal in your life is educating people about the breed, and clearing up misconceptions, including the colors of the breed. Dalmatians are smart, energetic, fiercely loyal and extremely stubborn. They even get a bad rap for being ‘hyper’ or ‘mean’ or worse. Callie adores kids, the water, playing ball and being with me. Callie received her AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate at 2 and a half years old, and we are working on agility as well.
You can see more photos of Callie on the Westway Studio blog. Terran also has some beautiful fine art landscapes for sale.
