I’m a huge fan of engagement photos with dogs, so I was delighted to see this adorable fall engagement session starring Toby the Dorkie from Maria Sharp Photography.
From Maria: “This autumn engagement session is set in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park featuring Rachel, Matt and their Dorkie! Toby, a Dachshund-Yorkie mix (Dorkie) is just over 2 years old. He was rescued from the Franklin County Dog Shelter.”
From Rachel: “Toby came into our life at the least expecting time. Matthew and I were both still finishing our degrees and lived on campus where dogs were not permitted.
That could not stop our love at first sight! (Thank goodness for parents who volunteer to watch a puppy for 5 months! Matthew fell in love with his floppy ears, and I melted every time I even looked at his sweet face. And how could you not love a dog who is a dorkie?! I mean, come on! How anyone abandoned Toby at just a few weeks old, we’ll never know, but I will always be grateful that we’re his forever home!
Toby is our furry son—we might just spoil him more than most parents do their human children. He completes our little family, and neither of us could imagine our lives without him. Toby loves sleeping, playing, gnawing the ears and noses off all of his toys, sleeping some more, and scouting out our front window. He is the biggest and toughest guard dog around! He also has a plethora of nicknames that have evolved beyond reason. Some of the favorites include: Toby-Wan-Kenobi, Toberlone, Tiby (his hyper alter-ego), and ‘lerone.
Including him in our engagement session was a given. He is a part of our family and is a huge part of our life. He also holds the most important job for our wedding—carrying the rings! Finding a photographer who was on board with including him (and didn’t think we were crazy) was a big deal to me, and Maria was perfect! She was more than patient with him, especially when he was being a stinker by only putting his tail-end towards the camera. She captured so many pictures that not only speak to his orneriness but the importance that he plays in our life. I am beyond excited to see how our wedding pictures turn out!”
