I’ve featured a lot of dog dynamic duos, and while they are often considered siblings, most aren’t genetically related. These beautiful Golden Retriever sisters joined their humans for an engagement session with Ryan & Brandi Photography.
From Brandi: “We have been waiting a long time to get together with Derek & Danielle for their engagement session. They were looking for the perfect spot for their engagement session – just the right mix of beach and field and rocky coastline. We gave it plenty of thought and decided on Blue Hill. You never really know what you are going to find in Blue Hill, it is such a cute little town! The one thing that we did not plan on was the additional member of their family. We knew that we were finally going to meet the ever popular Sullivan – A.K.A Sully. A few weeks ago, Sully became a big sister when Derek and Danielle brought little Libby into their family. How cute is she? Between the two of them together they just stole the show wherever we went. Strangers on the street were stopping us to say hello to those two. They were both quite the little posers too; it was pretty easy to get them to sit and look at the camera. Well, we think it LOOKED easy, their parents may think differently.
We wrapped our day taking Derek & Danielle to the Falls Bridge. We have always wanted to try out this spot, but something always seemed to be off, but today, everything was perfect. The lighting was fantastic, we were the only people there, the tide was right – it was just perfect! We took our time climbing over rocks and finding just the right spots for these two. We also made sure to have a few laughs along the way. We had such a great time with these two; we just can’t wait until their October wedding!”
From Danielle: “Sully is two years old, and Libby is three months old. We got them from a wonderful breeder. Sully and Libby are full-blooded sisters. We didn’t know if we were ready for another puppy, but when I heard it was the last litter for their parents, I reserved Libby without discussing it with my fiancé! They are both such sweet dogs with similar personalities, which is exactly what we were hoping for!
Bringing Libby home changed the dynamic of our little family. Before Libby came home, Sully was always so carefree, goofy, and attentive to us. She loved to retrieve tennis balls, play tug of war and snuggle on the couch with us and sit in her ‘perch’ (window seat) looking down onto our road, watching the passersby. Since Libby joined our family, Sully doesn’t do much of those things anymore. It’s like she grew up in an instant. We have seen such a change in her, she now seems to have all the worries of the world on her shoulders. All of a sudden, she has this puppy to raise. She attends to Libby night and day, and she lets Libby walk all over her.
Libby runs the house now; Sully is starting to put her foot down when Libby gets too crazy, but she seems to get sad if Libby gets scared or yelps. We’re trying to reassure ourselves that Sully is happy to have Libby in her life, just as we are, but we sometimes worry that she misses her old, easy life. On the other hand, our lives were very different before the responsibility of our dogs. We can identify with Sully’s sense of responsibility, having to care for them and raise them, but we wouldn’t go back to our old, easy lives for anything. They are so loved. We couldn’t imagine our lives without them, these girls complete our little family!
