Having an open mind helps many of us find happiness, and also saves lives. Samantha and her dog Ellie are a perfect example of this. Ellie is a gorgeous Great Dane and Labrador mix. Thanks to AO & JO Photography and Videography for sharing this beautiful engagement session!
From Sam: “Before meeting my husband, I adopted Eleanor ‘Ellie’ Rigby (I named her after a Beatle’s song) from a kill shelter in Wayne County, NC. Her previous owners surrendered her. I went to the shelter to look at a different dog; I had my heart set on a chocolate lab.
When I saw Ellie in the kennel, I thought to myself ‘this dog could use some fresh air and a walk.’ After going outside and seeing how well mannered she was, I started thinking about changing my mind about a chocolate lab. I’m glad I did. Once I filled out the paperwork to adopt her, I learned that she was scheduled to be euthanized. The previous owners came to say goodbye to her. It was emotional for everyone. At this shelter, once an owner surrenders a dog, the dog only has seven days to get adopted.
Ellie has been such a wonderful dog. She is a six-year-old Labradane (Great Dane and Lab mix). She has such a sweet soul and personality. Ellie wins everyone’s hearts who meets her. I’m so glad she won mine. My husband and I try our best to include her in everything we can.
We are currently looking into training her as a therapy dog, so she will be able to share her love with other people in our community.

If you know someone who is considering giving a pet up, please make sure they understand that owner surrenders are living on borrowed time in some shelters. It is especially important to find a no-kill organization for older pets.

You had me at Great Dane/Lab in the title :). Oh my goodness, Ellie is gorgeous! Look at that shiny fur! Wonderful pics and I know she will rock at her therapy dog training!
