Happy Monday! Thanks to Jamie K Photography for these happy engagement photos starring Abby, the Border Collie.
From Samantha: “Abby loves attention, so of course she’ll love this too. She will be 2 on October 6. She is a Border Collie, and as far as we know it’s 100%. We got her from a family friend whose dog had recently given birth to a litter of puppies in her shed and told us they were all Border Collies. She was one of 12 puppies (very large litter for collies) and one of only two females in the whole litter. She was very sweet and shy. She had pair bonded with another puppy (a male) and was not very social with most of the others. She is most certainly more of a people dog than a dog dog, although she still does find some dogs that she makes friends with – it just takes her awhile to warm up to them.”
She is still very sweet, but definitely not shy with people anymore! She has to meet every single person she sees and become their best friend. At times we think she is smarter than us. Many of the tricks we taught her she learned in less than a day. When she really wants something she will run through each of them (in the order she learned them) to get our attention and try to give us what she thinks we want. Her powers of manipulation are unyielding – she knows exactly how to get what she wants by just being cute! We love her beautiful markings and “freckles” – especially the mark around her mouth that makes it look like she’s smiling, and the little smiley face on her back right leg.
Also, she is a big snuggler. From the time she was just a puppy she has slept in our bed. We tried crate training, but I couldn’t stand the sound of her cries in the night. My fiance worked nights, and she was great company to me. She loves her dad, but she is definitely a momma’s girl. She follows me absolutely everywhere! When she was young I couldn’t take a shower without her crying because she couldn’t see me. She’s much better about this now and has become best friends with our cat, and her brother, Stewie. They play with each other all the time, and we often catch them napping together on the couch in the afternoon sun. She has become his friend and guardian. Any time another dog even looks at Stewie, Abby places herself between them to let them know he’s off limits to chasing! She is always very protective of things she feels can’t protect themselves. This includes Stewie, other small dogs she meets at the dog park, and small children – it doesn’t matter if she knows them or not, she feels it is her duty to protect them.
She is our baby girl and there are so many things we love about her! One of our most favorite activities with her is to go walking and hiking with her. She loves to explore and is very adventurous – but she is careful to stay close (she wouldn’t want us getting lost!). Our favorite spot to take her is “Top of the World,” also known as Marlatt Park, in Manhattan, KS. It’s where we had the pictures taken by Jamie. She absolutely loves to play fetch and could play all day long if you let her. She plays it with anything: frisbees, sticks, rocks, stuffed toys, blades of grass – but her absolute favorite is tennis balls. Every time we go to the park she finds at least 3 new tennis balls hidden away in the tall grass. Her record is 8 tennis balls that she found in a one hour period at the park.
As you can see, there are many things we love about our happy, energetic, personality-filled little girl. But most of all, we love the pure joy she brings to our lives. Each day with her is filled with new adventures – and we love it! We are so honored you have chosen to feature her and Jamie’s pictures on your site!
