Today is Celebrate Shelter Pets Day and Giving Tuesday. Of course I think the perfect way to celebrate both of these would to adopt another dog. However, adding another dog to my family wouldn’t be fair to anyone, so instead I’ll just hope someone falls in love with Pilot. I featured Jessica Painter’s photos of Pilot and other adoptable dogs from Regional Animal Shelter in October. Somehow the right person hasn’t gazed into his eyes and taken him home yet.
From Regional Animal Shelter: Pilot is a sweet special boy looking for a special home! He is neutered, micro chipped and up to date on all his shots. Pilot spent his life being passed around from home to home and never given any real love. He needs a family that will be patient with him and work to show him how to bond with a human. He needs to be the only dog with no children, and a calm, stable household.
His family should have knowledge of the breed and large dog experience. He loves to go for walks and play. Pilot is really mellow and likes to lay on his bed and relax. He knows his commands and is very treat motivated. He recently received his Canine Good Citizen certificate! Pilot has an adoption sponsor.

If you can’t adopt or foster, there are still lots of ways to show you care about Shelter Pets!
Make: Wrapped With Love is a group of artisans, crafters and good souls who knit, crochet, quilt or sew blankets and sweaters for dog rescues. Not the crafty type? No problem!
Donate: toys, pet food, cleaning and office supplies, are just a few of the things shelters need. Head to our Animal Shelter Donations Pinterest board for more ideas. Many donations are tax deductible. Check with the individual organization to see if your donations qualify as tax deductions. Monetary donations and gift cards are always appreciated!
Shop: Lots of companies give back to organizations with every purchase. One of my favorites is CharlieDog and Friends. Hendrick Boards, Best Friends and Pittie Chicks also give back to animal rescue. Looking for a book, computer game or small appliance? Make your first stop Amazon Smile, pick the charity and then shop. There is no additional expense to you, and your favorite charity gets a donation.
Volunteer: Drive for transport, exercise dogs, clean kennels, work at a fundraiser, write profiles for homeless pets, photograph dogs. Most rescues are grateful for any and all volunteer work.
Party: Have a party for kids and make toys, blankets, treats for dogs. Host a party, ask guests to bring a donation for a local shelter.
Share: If you have an awesome rescue pet (like Theo), tell others about him or her. Share adoptable pets on your social media, because you never know when love is going to strike. Join the Tuesday’s Tails blog hop and please share these pets who deserve a home for the holidays and every day!
About Jessica Painter Photography: Based in Albany, New York, Jessica Painter and her husband are wedding, portrait and special event photographers available to travel. They have three dogs and volunteer photographing homeless dogs.
