Eddie had been Lee’s rock through years of debilitating health battles. When the tables turned and Eddie faced his own fight for life, Lee stopped at nothing to support her best friend, right to the very end. We went to visit Lee and Eddie at the beautiful home they shared together, in the months leading up to Eddie’s passing.
From Lee: “Mr. Eddie Murphy,
Ours is a tale of fervent love. Of provision and blessing. A great and mutual gift. Of serendipity and perfect timing. Of healing. Of interconnectedness. Of love you wish to hold on to forever in its current form, yet you know you cannot. Of a love that will not die, only change to memory and a larger heart as its legacy.
I could never have known the days and years ahead when we chose each other. When I swept you out of that cage, you’d been abandoned to by those who were blind to your worth and did not deserve you. Lucky me. Lucky you.
Thank you, my moving shadow, never far from my side, who took such care not to trip me when my leg was lost. Who patiently walked at my slow crawl without complaint, while containing your vast enthusiasm and admirable athleticism. Who never pulled me over, and understood my constant apologies as I persevered. Who thought none the less of me for my incapacities, but only loved…as I do for you now. Who lay quietly at my feet when terror, exhaustion and their bleak companion, pain, all but consumed me.
We are kin and kindred. Now it is my turn to stand for you. To protect, provide and care for you with all I possess. It is my honour and privilege you great and wondrous creature. I will miss you so desperately when you fly free with my marvelous pack of border collies. I’m so blessed to have been graced by you all, all the days of my life thus far.
I love you beyond earth and sky… Xxxx”
Oh I’m a blubbering mess! Where are my tissues!! That loving heartfelt poem captures the very essence of that relationship with her heart dog. I’m sorry for her loss of Eddie but hope she is overjoyed that she was able to have this last photo session with Mr. Eddie to keep happy memories and look upon later in life. Thanks for sharing these beautiful loving images and her story. I know the next time I adopt this will be something I’ll do annually to keep all the memories.
Oh my goodness, this post pulled at my heart strings. It can be so hard to lose a pet, but it is such a wonderful gift to form a bond with an animal.
I honestly didn’t know pet photography existed before stumbling upon your blog and I think it is such a warm gift! This story is precious and brings us back to what matters in life- relationship.

That is so sad but so heartfelt at the same time. It is always hard losing a pet and it hurts so bad especially when you love them so dearly. I hope she finds comfort in knowing that she gave that dog a wonderful home.

That is so beautiful and sad but happy at the same time. There truly is something special about the bond you can have with a pet.
Eddie looks very cheerful in those photos. Lee can look at those photos and always remember their great time together.
This is a beautiful dedication – and I love the relationship between dog and owner. You can really feel the sense of emotion and all the love!
This is so touching Lee will be missed but will always be in everyone’s heart forever. It seems like a very sweet and fun loving dog.
So sad when a dog passes because they are a huge part of our families. I love the idea of pet photos to cherish the memories
Border collies look like such sweet babies!!! I loved learning about them and seeing the pic.
I just lost my 13 year old shih tzu back in December so I couldn’t even make it through the post. So sorry for your loss. 🙁
I am so sorry for your loss, I know how hard it is.
I should have listened to you and gotten a kleenex!! What a beautiful and heart melting tribute, I wish everyone was lucky enough to experience that kind of love. I’m so glad they were there for each other in the wonderful times, and the more challenging days when they needed each other the most.
Aww, What a beautiful memory for Eddie, the Border Collie. Very beautiful dog. I love the quote mentioned above “Sometimes when you rescue a dog, they end up rescuing you, too.” That is so true, I love it!
What beautiful photos to cherish too!
Hang on a minute * reaches for hankie * Got something in my eye here.
A splendid photo essay abut true love and commitment that any human couple would envy. Beautifully shot, and not afraid of shadows and contrasts.
Breathtaking stuff.
I am still raw from my own, recent loss. I hope one day to pay such tribute to my beloved Reese. The love between Eddie and Lee, their bond, is certainly obvious in this touching eulogy. Thank you; I feel privileged to have read it.
Such a wonderful bond and such fantastic photos with your heartfelt tribute. I definitely have had my heart dogs – 2 of them. I know the loss is hard and I’m so sorry.
