Zari, the Jack Russell/Aussie Shepherd mix, is adventure elopement photographer Sheena Shahangian’s favorite model. Recently, I put out a call for photos of dogs in the snow, and Sheena sent me these photos of Zari’s first snow in Georgia.
From Sheena: “As an elopement photographer, most of what I photograph is couples getting married. But anyone that knows me that my dog Zari is actually the one who makes up the majority of my phone’s camera roll. She’s my best friend, my adventure buddy, and hands-down the smartest and coolest dog I’ve ever known.
I adopted Zari from Atlanta Humane Society back in 2015. She’s a Jack Russell/Aussie Shepherd mix (as you can imagine, she has an insane amount of energy!) She was brought to the humane society as a puppy, where she was adopted for the first time. However, the family that adopted her brought her back when she was about one year old.
I remember looking in her eyes at the shelter and knowing right then and there that this was my girl. There was just something that I gravitated towards. Looking at her, I knew pretty quickly that I needed her just as much as she needed me.
These photos are of Zari’s first-ever experience in the snow. Now that we live in Colorado, she experiences the snow quite a bit (and she’s obsessed!). But when I snapped these photos, we lived in Georgia, where snow days are extremely uncommon.
I particularly loved how adorably elegant she was as I snapped photos of her curiously smelling the snow and dipping her paws in it for the first time. I remember her being so cautious and meticulous with each step in the powder, not quite sure what this fluffy stuff even was.
We like to joke that Zari is a total queen. We always find her sitting in the most regal of positions or finding perches where she can look out on the world, and I think it was during this snow day that we really saw that side of her on full display.“
After taking a look at Sheena’s Instagram account, I asked her to send more photos of some of their adventures. Happily, she agreed and I know you’re going to love these images too!
