While many families hire a professional photographer when a new baby joins the family, I’m thrilled to see this family photo session to celebrate a new family member, Philberta, the Aussiedoodle puppy. Welcoming her to the family are Alcott (also an Aussiedoodle) and their favorite people, Camron and Elliot. Photographer Christa Rene Photography. is a dog mom herself, and loves documenting special family moments like this.
From Christa: “Cambron and Elliott just adopted their new Aussie Doodle! To celebrate their growing family, Cambron designed the cutest session for her, her husband, and their pups- Alcott and Philberta! Cambron wore the prettiest blue-toned dress and chose a complimenting bow tie for Elliott. Her pups had the best Crew LaLa colors that matched perfectly!! Little Philberta (they call her Bertie!) was just weeks old and could fit in the cutest blush box. We’re so excited for the couple and love their pups!”
From Cambron: “The main element of the shoot started with the location. I love the classic black and white marble floor and stairs of Hibernian Hall and really wanted a classic Charleston feel for our family photos. From there, I had been eyeing the Cara Cara Blue Hill Jacobean Dress for months. I thought the blue print was so beautiful and felt so classic – just like Hibernian Hall.
The pups’ collars were something I already had custom-made from Crew La La here in Charleston and worked perfectly with my dress. Between the collars, my dress, and Elliott’s bow tie, the pattern play was so fun and felt very natural. As for Ms. Bertie in the box, well, I couldn’t think of anything better than a puppy in a box around Christmas. It was purely for us as a memory- to remind us ‘of that time we brought our baby girl home during the holidays!’
I was nervous about shooting the dogs, truly. Alcott, our big 70lb Aussiedoodle has a big personality, and I didn’t know how that would translate to the camera. I loved that the photos Christa captured were such a great representation of how he had been feeling – unsure and a little concerned about having a new pup in the house. Alcott had only known Bertie for a week and was still getting used to her. Other than his par for the course silly facial expressions, he was a perfect gentleman. One thing we love about him is how we are never unsure how he feels. His face always gives it away, and he isn’t happy if he isn’t holding your hand with this own paw.
Ms. Philberta was only 3.5lbs the day we did this shoot. She is a Mini Aussiedoodle and will be under 25lbs when full grown. We are still getting to know her personality, but she already seems to think she is the same size as her big brother. She loves to hop on his back or pull on his ears and assert herself as the new boss in the house. Alcott loves it and just flops over on his back and lets her climb all over him. It really is the sweetest thing, how they are so good to one another so soon. We are seeing such a beautiful brother-sister relationship bloom, and I truly think the Aussiedoodle breed has made it so easy. They are silly, stubborn, and always trying to make us (and each other) happy. It is a true joy to experience. “
