Last week I was thrilled to able to share WolfCub in Black and White photographed by Kirsten Bowers of Wolf Shadow Photography. Today I’m equally excited to share with you some images of WolfCub in color as well as some great news about Kirsten.
Kirsten has titled this image “Angel from Above” and its easy to see why. WolfCub has been a source of comfort and joy to Kirsten for nearly nine years. After a year of carefully researching the Groenendael breed and finding a reputable breeder, Kirsten brought WolfCub home at 9 weeks of age. He led Kirsten to start a dog walking/ pet sitting business, Pet Pursuits, as well as bringing her back to photography.
WolfCub has epilepsy, which caused a few months of heartbreak and agony for both Kirsten and WolfCub. Fortunately, the epilepsy is now under control.
WolfCub’s favorite things include being at the beach and chasing the ball, although he doesn’t chase them as often anymore. Food has remained a passion of his.
From Kirsten: WolfCub ‘s pedigree name is Lumineux Heart and Soul, and he is all that to me and more! My business, Wolf Shadow Photography, was partly named after him, to honour the special spirit that he is. Having worked with animals for many years and being an advocate of rewards based training has given me insight into behaviour and also taught me how to behave around them, so that they are comfortable. I think this is vital in helping me achieve the kind of emotional connection that people have told me they find in the images. Wolf Shadow Photography is about exploring the heroic, dark and comic visions of our companions.
Today, Kirsten Bowers was named as a finalist for the 2012 Bowness Photography Prize, a highly prestigious photography award in Australia. Congratulations Kirsten and WolfCub!
If you’d like to purchase your own WolfCub prints, you can do so by visiting here. I’m hoping she’ll add a line of WolfCub greeting cards! Be sure to check out Wolf Shadow Photography on facebook too!

I’ve known Kirsten’s wonderful work for a long time and am thrilled (but not at all surprised) to see the recognition she is earning for her superb photography. Her rapport with WolfCub and other pets, combined with her consummate skill behind the lens, leads to consistently excellent and creative animal portraits.
