Kali is a beautiful Yellow Lab and her story is a lucky one. I know its easy to get lost in the photos, but her story really is worth reading! Thanks to Kim Reimer Photography for sending these photos and honest story in!
From Kimberlee: “We purchased Kali from a backyard breeder two years ago for my birthday (I know, tsk tsk for not rescuing). We weren’t actually intending to adopt a dog that day, we were just looking (famous last words) but she was the cutest thing and of all the puppies there, she attached herself to our daughter (2 years old) with a singular devotion and followed her everywhere.
When Kali was 6 months old, we noticed that she was walking strangely. We took her to the vet who did an x-ray and found that her hips weren’t aligned properly. We had insurance already, and he figured perhaps it was just how she was growing. Another 5 months went by and she was getting significantly worse. We took her back to the vet and he x-rayed her again. She was diagnosed with bi-lateral hip dysplasia at 11 months old. A specialist in canine hip replacement surgery was flown in and she said that Kali had the worst case of dysplasia she had ever seen, it was a miracle that she could even walk.
For the next year and a half Kali underwent bi-lateral hip replacement surgeries, recovery and therapy. We weren’t allowed to let our puppy walk on her own for nearly a year. Thankfully, now she is fully recovered.”

Kim purchased a puppy on impulse, but fortunately she had insurance and good veterinary care so Kali can have the life she deserves! Lots of dogs from backyard breeders aren’t so lucky. Please try rescuing first, if that doesn’t work for you, go to a reputable breeder to minimize the risk of health problems.

Great story! Poor pup though. Good thing she found a nice home that was able to care for her properly. Very pretty dog!
