How To Make Felt Dog Ornaments

Happy Howlidays!   Every year I add to my ornament collection.  This year  I decided to try to sew some felt dog ornaments, and as you might guess, it was very easy!  Thanks to my sister, Alice G Patterson, for the photos! 

I enlisted two of my sisters to help, and we had a great time talking and stitching, even though sewing is not my forte!

Supplies For Felt Dog Ornaments

cookie cutter (or another template)

paper and pen

scissors

felt 

pins

needle and thread

hooks, string, or wire for hanging

stuffing

Possibly the most fun part of the project is choosing your template.  I picked these simple cookie cutters up at the grocery store but then later found some better cookie cutters on Amazon.

Directions

 Trace template to paper

Cut out the paper pattern

Pin pattern to fabric

Cut out 2 pieces for each ornament

Cut out ears in a contrasting color 

Attach ears

Stich closed except for a small opening

Stuff

Stich closed

I think this would look cute on a tree or a wrapped gift.  We decided to personalize our store-bought wreath by adding the felt dogs, dog treats, and some ribbons and glass balls.

I hung my wreath on the front door.  My dogs would be going crazy trying to get the treats if the wreath was inside.  

Maybe the delivery people from UPS, Fed Ex, and the post office wondered about this dog-themed wreath, but if they’ve ever looked at the packages and mail they deliver, they would have realized this house has already gone to the dogs!
