When we adopted our dog, Theo, seven years ago, we knew he was special. Right away, he loved my kids, and they loved him. Theo started as the “kids’ dog” since we already had two other dogs. However, he quickly won all of our hearts.

Theo is always by our side and makes every adventure a little more fun. Like many dogs, Theo is also very intuitive. He knows when someone needs a buddy during a difficult time. Theo has helped our younger kids cope with everything the teenage years brought. He welcomed my older kids’ spouses and my first grandchild into the family. He makes me laugh every day and has been a perfect quarantine buddy. I wish everyone could have a dog that enriches their life the way Theo does.
He loves to snuggle, chew on his plush toys, play tug, and catch a ball. But his favorite part of the day is probably mealtime.
Since Theo is an integral part of our family, I do my best to keep him healthy and happy.
That includes lots of love, exercise, regular vet visits, and a healthy diet.

One of my siblings served in the military, and currently, I have several nephews in the Armed Forces. Currently, only about 1 out of 150 veterans can have a service dog partly due to the high cost of obtaining a service dog and too few organizations that help veterans connect and train with the dogs. It breaks my heart to think that those who need a dog the most may not be able to get one.
Sierra Delta offers two types of training for dogs for veterans: Life Buddy or Guide Dogs. Life Buddy dogs can provide emotional support, increased independence, as well as home and public assistance. Life Buddy dogs are only permitted in areas that allow dogs. Guide dogs can be trained to help with daily activity, helping with PTSD, and emergency assistance, and are allowed to go anywhere, even where dogs are not typically permitted.

Sierra Delta is such an important cause! I served in the Canadian Armed Forces and while my service was all complete locally, a number of my friends went overseas. Seeing the impact that it had on them moving forward and the lack of assistance that many received when they were struggling was heartbreaking. These are people who are literally willing to give everything, down to and including their lives, for their country and then they come home and are often overlooked. I am glad to hear that Sierra Delta is working to help these veterans connect with the service dogs that they need to enhance their lives.
I love discovering they help veterans! Our cat Prissy is our daughter’s emotional support animal, she just knows when our daughter is having a rough time or when her anxiety is spiking. Prissy has become so important to our family. Although we have a cat instead of a dog, I love Sierra Delta partnering with Blue Buffalo to help veterans so we plan to buy a small bag of dog food and donate it to the local shelter.
