With a glorious long weekend stretched out in front of us, it is easy to fixate on the fun parts, such as the food, the socializing, and for many, the fireworks. But the Fourth Of July can be dangerous for dogs. In addition to the regular holiday dangers (eating something toxic, stress due to a crowd of people, and an increased chance of an unnoticed exit) fireworks can wreak havoc with a dog’s mindset.
While my dogs don’t seem to mind fireworks, they skip our local fireworks display because there are too many people and other dogs there. I feel that for my crew, the risks outweigh the potential fun.

I am hoping that noiseless fireworks will catch on in the United States. If fireworks cause so much distress for dogs, I bet it is much worse for wildlife.

We don’t celebrate 4th of July, but my dog is super sensitive when it comes to high noises and this tips are very useful.

This is a great infographic! My pup doesn’t appear scared, but she does take note of fireworks. I’m not a big fan of going out to see them, so I like to stay home with her.
I love this infographic and have shared it on Pinterest and Facebook. I never leave Ruby alone July 4th. She is most nervous when she is alone (separation anxiety) so being alone when fireworks are going off I assume would be extra stressful. Thankfully she doesn’t seem bothered by them when we are all home together.
We take turns watching Mr. N for major firework holidays. I think we’re both staying home with him this year.
