Today is one of those gray dreary days and has me daydreaming of California sunshine. Luckily, Colorado Springs photographer Ali Peterson of Skyy Blue Photography sent me this great session from her days of living in San Diego.
From Ali: “This sweet, mellow big lug of a dog was so welcoming and friendly. As a Pit Bull/Mastiff mix complete with battle wounds, at first glance he may look a bit unapproachable. But one should NEVER judge a book by its cover, because this guy is as sweet as they come. His wounds, along with his crooked tail, are actually from his time spent trying to survive after losing his family during the massive San Diego fires a few years ago. The poor guy was all alone. Luckily, he was found and taken to my dear friends at the Escondido Humane Society, where they cared for him and eventually found him a new home with a very loving mother. Then, as if the fire experience wasn’t traumatic enough, Chance was later diagnosed with Skin Cancer. He fought that battle and had it successfully removed (at least for the time being – that stuff is known to come back…fingers crossed it doesn’t). At 7 years old, he now lives a happy life hanging around the house, going to work with mom, checking the mail and enjoying the simple things. He is SO mellow, in fact, that me and his mom would literally be laying on the floor making conversation while we waited for him to make his next move. It was a welcomed change of pace from my usual shoots where I’m running around, playing, chasing dogs, trying to get them to hold still. Thinking about his story and how this was to be my last session in San Diego, it definitely made for an emotional one…and I LOVED every minute of it!”
Sending Chance wishes for continued good health! You can see more of Chance on the Skyy Blue Photography blog.
