Today I’m participating in Blog For the Change. I hope that you will take a few minutes and read the other blogs that are joining in today’s blog hop. There is a wide range of topics and a lot of information about ways we can all help make a difference for animals.
Like a fine wine, dogs get better with age. Although I’m a total puppy freak, there is something absolutely magical about an old dog. Sadly many old dogs end up in a shelter when their families can no longer (or no longer want) to keep them. Terran Bayer from Westway Studio recently spent some time with 6 senior dogs who are hoping for new homes.
From Terran: “These wonderful senior dogs are looking for loving homes where they can spend their golden years filled with comfort and happiness. They are all available through Lionel’s Legacy in San Diego, CA.”
Harry is a Harrier, part of the hound family. He is a happy, tolerant, and sweet boy who will steal your heart the moment you meet him. Harry is around 9 years old and absolutely loves belly rubs, playing fetch, going on walks, and chewing on his bone. Harry is house-trained and adjusting nicely to his crate.
Lady is a gorgeous, petite supermodel – just look at the way her hair blows in the breeze! She’s about 10-12 years old and lives up to her name. Lady is very gentle soul who loves her foster family with young kids and pug friends. She weighs about 25 pounds and would do best in a home without many stairs. This girl is as sweet as can be.
Kane is a Pittie/Lab mix and an absolute love. He’s about 13 years old and was surrendered by his owner along with his best friend, who, unfortunately, was euthanized before she could be saved. Kane was in bad shape but Lionel’s Legacy and his foster family were able to help him fully recover. Kane is being fostered by a family with two young children who climb all over him. He’s such a gentle boy who loves to go for walks and play tug-o-war with his friends.
Lottie the Hottie is a little ball of Pomeranian/Chihuahua love. She’s about 12 years old and gets along well with everyone — even small children, dogs of all sizes, and kitties. Lottie was neglected in her past life and had to have all of her teeth removed when she came to Lionel’s Legacy. Her little pink tongue now sticks out of her mouth but she’s happy and pain-free, so she’s ok with it. Lottie would make an awesome little companion.
Misty is a lab mix who is about 7-9 years old. She was born with a growth defect in her back legs but it doesn’t slow her down any — Misty is as happy as can be and she loves to go-go-go! Misty loves children, she doesn’t bark, and she never gets in to trouble when left home alone; she is a perfect dog for a first-time pet-parent!

Thank you so much for highlighting Senior dogs in need of adoption. So many people don’t realize how amazing and move-in ready older dogs can be. Most of our fosters are older dogs, and we know if/when we need to adopt again we will definitely go with older dogs.

Great post and great pictures – such sweet seniors – wish I could take them all. We’re building up to adding another in our 2 senior home. Great organization too.
