Once again I’m delighted to share some awesome dogs who need a little help to find their forever homes. Trish and Patrick Hadley from StudioFido recently volunteered some time to help these amazing dogs from Illinois Shorthair Rescue.
From Trish “Autumn was an owner turn-in at a county animal control facility. She was said to be 11 yrs old, although she acts a lot younger. Owners said they were getting rid of her because of a health issue, but we found all she needed was some inexpensive medication to control the problem.
Autumn gets along great with people and other dogs. She comes when called and knows “sit”. She is housebroken and crate trained, and rides well in a car. She is well behaved in the house and doesn’t jump up on furniture or chew things or beg when you’re eating. She does seem to have some arthritis in her hips, but this isn’t why she stays off the furniture as we have seen her jump from the ground into a crate in the back of a van without any encouragement. She isn’t on any pain meds and doesn’t really seem to need them-her arthritis is only noticeable on days when she is very active.
Autumn enjoys walks and playing fetch with a tennis ball. She is also a typical “velco” GSP, who likes to follow her foster parents the house and yard, or lie at their feet while they’re working on the computer.
Do you have room in your life to give this older girl a family of her own for her senior years? Autumn is currently being fostered in Midland, Michigan but is available for adoption through Illinois Shorthair Rescue.
Rusty is a male GSP who loves his people! He is pretty much a “velcro” shorthair, always wanting to be where you are. Ever hear of the saying “Idle hands do the devil’s work.”? Well, Rusty has and he is intent on making sure there are no problems with his owners passing through the golden gates when their time comes. Rusty is always happy to offer an ear to rub or a head to scratch.
Rusty gets along just fine with his GSP foster brothers and sisters (9 of them). He enjoys taking walks, exploring the backyard, and car rides. He is housebroken and crate trained, and will sit and come when you call him (most of the time). He’s even pretty good at walking on leash, though he can pull at times.
Rusty is up to date on vaccines and has been neutered. Unfortunately his previous owners did not keep him up to date on heartworm preventive, and so we have had to treat him for a heartworm infection. He receives his last set of treatments the week of October 14, and will be ready for adoption to a “calm” household the following week. This would be a home that can continue to keep him quiet for another month until the infection has resolved. If not adopted during this time, he will be ready for general adoption the second week of November.
He will make a great dog for someone that is looking for a devoted companion. Rusty is being fostered in Midland, Michigan. Contact Ann at m8985-rusty@yahoo.com if you are interested in adopting Rusty. He will have a $250 adoption fee, and comes with vet work up-to-date and a microchip.
