Although I don’t normally post on the weekends, I’m couldn’t wait to share some wonderful adoptable dogs from BARK located in the Richmond, VA area. Mary Maier volunteered her time to photograph these cuties who are all in need of forever homes. The shelter is run entirely by volunteers who clean kennels, walk the dogs, and give them lots of one-on-one attention!
From Mary: “I got started in dog photography by volunteering with BARK, a no-kill dog shelter in Richmond, Virginia. By applying my photography skills to my volunteer work, I began to learn how to capture a dog’s personality in a beautiful and meaningful way. It’s important for rescue dogs to have a great photo because it absolutely helps them get adopted! Although it requires patience and a lot of creativity to photograph rescue dogs, it is one of the most rewarding things I do!”
Roomie is a two year old Shepherd/Lab mix. He has brown, tan, and black blended fur. Roomie gets along great with other dogs and loves to play! He is outgoing, friendly, and will make a wonderful companion.
Berkley is a 4 year old Black Lab mix and weighs around 69 pounds. Berkley is good with cats, housetrained, and LOVES to play ball!
Coco was born in Sicily in early 2011 and has traveled to the USA to start a new life. He is super handsome, is about a year and a half old now and weighs 62 pounds. He loves to ride in the car and he will lay his paws across your lap when you are relaxing together.
Diesel is a handsome Labrador Retriever mixed with possibly some Plott Hound or Dutch Shepherd. He is black and brown with brindle mixed in his coat. He is about one and a half years old and enjoys walking on trails and being with you. He is a nice medium size and has a soft, easy to groom coat. He is very smart, listens well, and should be relatively easy to train as he’s eager to please.
Willis is a very sweet and friendly male mixed breed, and he’s quite the gentleman! He is good on a leash and is selective about his doggie friends. Willis has very good manners and is quite gentle. His favorite thing to do is go on a long walk and he walks nicely at your side. This handsome boy is 93 pounds and about 4 years old. His soft, silky medium length coat will require regular brushing to maintain it, and he loves to be brushed!
Diesel 2 is a two-year old Rottweiler who appears to be purebred. He weighs 67 pounds and is medium sized. He is friendly and energetic and enjoys exploring the long trails on the BARK property. He would love an active family to share his life with, and will be a nice companion. Diesel 2 would do best in a home with a nice, large fenced in yard where he can run and play to his heart’s content.
Louie is a very sweet, affectionate male Black Labrador Retriever mix. He has a gorgeous shiny black coat with a little white on his chest. Louie is about 9 months old. He loves to play with tennis balls and toys and seems to like water as he sometimes plays in his water bucket in his kennel (although he doesn’t make a big mess). Louie would love a family with who would take him on some long walks and include him in many family activities.
Gloria is a beautiful, laid back female black Labrador Retriever mix. She is about 6 years young and weighs 66 pounds. Gloria has wonderful manners, is very friendly, and has an easy going personality. She is appreciative of everything you do for her and always greets volunteers with a smile!
Peanut is a gorgeous medium sized male Shepherd/Lab mix, with a shiny black coat. Peanut is about three years old and has the cutest ears! Peanut was rescued from a rural shelter. He was a bit nervous when he first came to BARK, but has come out of his shell in no time! Now he is the happiest boy and enjoys being out and about.
Blackie is a five year old Basset Hound/Border Collie mix. Blackie has black and tan fur but the height and build of a Basset Hound. He would do best in an all adult home that has dog experience and a home with no children, as he gets territorial and protective of his home and nervous around strangers. He misses being in a home, and is a love once he is comfortable with you.
To learn more about any of these wonderful dogs please visit the BARK adoption page and check out the BARK facebook page. BARK also has adoption outings on the weekends at PetSmart in Henrico, VA. Additionally they take some dogs out on the second and fourth Sundays of the month to the PetSmart at Cosner’s Corners in Fredericksburg, VA.

Just curious about Diesel. He’s a good looking dog and one dog that I would consider adopting. Is he still adoptable and if so, how could I meet him? I am also admiring (all) the dogs on BARKVA. I’m just looking at all the possibilities! Ty!

I keep going back to Diesel. I feel like we would connect. When is it possible to come and visit him? This is Diesel 1, not Diesel 2. Thank you so much! God bless!

It looks like Diesel has already found a forever home. You can see all the dogs currently up for adoption at BARK on this page: http://www.barkva.org/view-dogs/
