I have a weakness for handsome dogs, especially big ones. As a teenager and a college student I became obsessed with Newfoundlands. But I’ve never had one or even known one personally. Thanks to the internet I’m able to know some virtually and my two favorites are Leroy and Sherman. These two handsome dogs are focus of Jen Costello’s blog My Brown Newfies.
A visit to My Brown Newfies is almost always guaranteed to make me smile! Jen is hilarious and her dogs give her plenty of material to use. She has a great outlook on life and it just makes my day better to see what is going on in her world…or as Jen says, it is Leroy and Sherman’s world, she just lives in it. My Brown Newfies is a personal pet/lifestyle blog where Jen writes about her dogs, pet health, pet products, family, and totally crazy stories that only seem to ever happen to Jen and her dogs.
From Jen: “Like a lot of people I share a passion for dogs. My dogs just happen to be a bit larger and furrier than the average dog which makes living with them quite a wonderful adventure and a great story to share. Sherman and Leroy bring so much inspiration to me every day. They keep me grounded and they offer my family and I unconditional love at times when we need it the most. One of the great things about them is that they are dogs that you can hug. I mean you can hug every dog but these guys you can HUG and they will hug you right back and rest there massive heads on your shoulder just because they know that is what you need, and leave a little slobber behind just to let others know they were there. While we take have taken many adventures together over past years, one of my greatest new adventures with Sherman and Leroy has been to try and capture their beauty though photography. I am in no way a professional photographer, but I came to realize early on that I didn’t have to be one when my subjects were so willing to show off their beauty!”
It’s been so fulfilling to able to share my love for Sherman and Leroy with others who feel a similar bond with their dogs on my blog and all the happiness and good times that they bring to our lives.”
Even when life throws Jen a curveball, she deals with it beautifully. I started going to her blog to see Leroy and Sherman, I keep coming back because Jen makes me laugh, smile and think. If you ever need a good laugh, I highly recommend stopping by Jen’s blog. Be sure to like My Brown Newfies on Facebook and your life will be a little brighter.

Hi Cindy,
I’m so happy you are considering adopting a Newf! You might start with Washington Newfoundland Rescue (http://newfoundland.rescueme.org/Washington), Big Dogs Huge Paws (http://bigdogshugepaws.com/), Newfoundhaven (https://petstablished.com/organization/724463) as well as Petfinder.com. Sometimes you can even get a transport team to help get your newly adopted dog closer to your home.
