You may recognize Biscuit as the cover dog from the Jones Soda Green Apple Flavor or as the Orvis Cover Dog Winner as well as his feature on Pretty Fluffy. Biscuit is the beloved dog and favorite muse of photographer Katherine Carver.
It is a natural assumption that Biscuit has led the life of a pampered pup, but it seems the first five to eight years of his life were hard. Most likely a breeder for a puppy mill, Biscuit was found wandering the streets in North Carolina, frightened, filthy, matted and with deformed back legs. Fortunately he was brought to Sheltie Haven Sheltie Rescue, Inc. in Fredrick, MD. Biscuit is a dog who seems to have more than his fair share of pain and loneliness but perhaps its counterbalanced with the great love of two people who love him more than anything. Katherine and her husband adopted Biscuit in 2010.
From Katherine: “We had the fortunate opportunity to meet Biscuit in December of 2010. When we first met Biscuit he was very sad and extremely timid, and we were not sure that he would ever come out of his shell. We decided to adopt Biscuit on the spot, and he has been a loving member of our family ever since. Gone is the shy, apprehensive Biscuit. In its place is a confident, friendly, and handsome Biscuit with a zest for life.
Most importantly, our lives have been permanently changed for the better since rescuing and adopting Biscuit. Biscuit has been a tremendous blessing to us and we encourage anyone considering getting a dog to first consider all of the rescue and shelter dogs who are in need of furever homes who will really appreciate your love and care. Rescue and shelter dogs’ loyalty and love towards their families is unwavering.”
There is another chapter in Biscuit’s life that Katherine wanted me to share. Biscuit has had issues with his kidneys ever since they have had him, but the condition has worsened recently. Additionally, he has polyps in his left ear that require surgery. Tomorrow, Biscuit will be having surgery for his ear as he is still healthy enough to withstand anesthesia. Please send your prayers, thoughts and good wishes for Biscuit, Katherine and her husband.

Update: Sadly Biscuit passed away July 7, 2013. He will be missed by many and we are grateful we were able to share his wonderful story.
