Now that we have warmer weather, our time outside will be increasing dramatically. In our family, that means a lot of cookouts and lawn games!
While Theo loves food almost more than anything, he seems to enjoy having everyone over and spending time outside.
* gingham bone * dog toy bucket *bocce set * Dog House * Howdy T-shirt * cornhole board * croquet set * dog tether tug *
Give Theo a bucket of tennis balls, and he’s a happy dog! However, his favorite game is tug of war, so I think a tether tug for dogs would be a big hit with him.
Nelly and Sophie aren’t much for fetch, but they like to play with a squeaky toy on the deck.
The humans in my family love playing badminton, bocce, and frisbee games. Playing badminton with Theo around is a bit tricky, he will sometimes try to catch the birdie. And if we leave a birdie lying around, Sophie thinks it her chew toy. Bocce is a great choice to play in our yard; the balls are heavy enough that Theo doesn’t try and carry them away. I think that croquet would be lots of fun, but first I need to learn the rules!
Lots of dogs play Frisbee, and Theo is moderately interested, but not like some dogs I know.
Gertrude, one of our family’s favorite dogs, is a fan of tetherball. It is really fun to watch her play.
While we would never leave our dogs outside all day, I think that they would enjoy watching the games from a comfy spot.
We’d love to know what your favorite lawn games are!

I wish Layla would play with toys outdoors but her favorite past time is to watch the world go by, she sits on the bench in the park or lawn depending on where I am sitting and just watches BOL
Beth says
People watching is pretty interesting!

These Lawn games sound fun! Icy doesn’t like frisbees much. She’ll run after them but she won’t pick them up, LOL! She loves tennis balls though! Theo is so adorable, I love seeing him in your posts.

Monte needs to move. So it’s hiking. Otherwise he just curls up and naps and shows zero interest in what is going on. He’s funny like that. It’s also convenient mind you – we can for example play badminton without him under foot. He isn’t a fetcher or a tugger.

Well, Cookie’s favorite lawn game is “find the mouse.” LOL Or a mole. She doesn’t mind scent games with hidden treats in the house but outside there are too many natural stimulants for her to care about food.
Beth says
Does she catch them often? Sophie is always interested in toads, but she doesn’t catch them.

I am such a fail with frisbees! I am afraid to catch them in case I damage my nails (yeah lame lame!!) I can play croquent though, it’s not a game for cissies!!
Beth says
At least you have an excuse besides clumsiness. I’m not good at frisbee, but I still try. Bocce is my favorite because it requires the least coordination.

I really need a yard! I miss being able to have friends over in the summer months for cookouts and yard games. The dogs love to play but we don’t have a private, fenced in area where they can play off leash. Piper would LOVE that tether pole!

My dog always beats me in tug of war, so the tether tug would be perfect for us!

Fun~! I remember as a child playing croquet at my aunt’s house. All the cousins and aunts and uncles, it was so much fun! I would totally love to try that again.

What fun! It looks like Wayfair has a lot of great outdoor toys for dogs and their families to enjoy together. 🙂 That tug toy looks like it is really fun. My cats would love a version of that toy that they could bat at and chase around the pole. 🙂
Beth says
They have an indoor version of the tug toy that might be purrfect for your cats!

I’ve seen the dog tether tug and it looks like a wonderful toy for dogs who like to play tug of war. My mom’s dog loves to pull on toys with us on the other end.

The Poodle Pair aren’t much for outdoor games. I don’t have a fenced yard either. J.R. will play ball for a few minutes, then seems to tire of the game, April just watches. These are great ideas for dogs that like to play, though!

I’m ready for some summer fun with my dogs!

Kilo does not really like tennis balls but loves playing tug and with plush toys or empty water bottles. Our human family love badminton, croquet and bocce ball. Can’t wait for warmer drier weather to play more outside.

How fun! I so miss our doggie. 🙁 These are great games for the whole family to enjoy, though, so that would bring back a smile. 🙂

Aw, hi Theo! We love having our pup outside with us. Whether we’re playing a game with her, or she’s just around as we play games, I know she’s just loving the fresh air and company!
