June is Adopt A Cat Month. “Kttten season” results in too many kittens and not enough homes. Hill’s® Science Diet® has a wonderful program Food, Love, & Shelter ® that is dedicated to helping pets. The goal of the Hill’s® Food, Shelter & Love Program is simple: to provide dogs and cats with superior nutrition that will make them healthier, happier and more adoptable as they wait for their forever home.
With all the cats and kittens in shelters, how do you choose the one that is right for you? If you already have a dog or a cat, look for a cat that the shelter thinks will be a good fit for your other pets. Think about your lifestyle: do you want an active kitten or an older cat? If you want a kitten, a lot of people recommend you adopt two. I know that having two dogs has minimized the destruction that a puppy wreaks because they play with each other, I assume cats are the same way. Plus it would just be adorable to have two kittens (but would you ever be able to do anything besides smile and say awwww!)
These two cuties are available from Greenville County, South Carolina where all cats and kittens are free to adopt all summer long!
It is important to start kittens out on the right step, including feeding them nutritionally sound food like Hill’s ® Science Diet® Kitten Healthy Development.
Boo, Duke and Amy Rose are just 3 of the cats up for adoption at Stevens – Swan Humane Society Inc. in Utica, New York.
I encourage everyone to consider adopting a cat with special needs or a senior cat who may be considered less adoptable. They may appreciate a second chance more than you can imagine and repay you with love and joy like no other.
If you are thinking about adding a cat to your family, use the Find a Shelter tool to find a Hill’s® Food, Shelter & Love® shelter partner in your area. Adopt a cat from a Hill’s Food, Shelter and Love partner and you’ll receive a a free bag of Science Diet® pet food or a $5 off coupon to further ensure a smooth and easy transition for pets to their new home. Hill’s Science Diet is available from your vet and pet specialty stores.
Before you bring your new cat or kitten home, read this short article on making a home safe for a cat.
Will you be celebrating Adopt A Cat Month? If you can’t adopt a cat, consider fostering or making a donation to a shelter or rescue during this busy kitten season!

We have three “unadoptable” cats in our home; they all came from shelters where they had languished for one or more years because they didn’t have the kind of personalities that showed well. With time they learned to trust people, to relax in their home, and are now each a character in their own way. We’re big fans of adopting the slightly older, unwanted cats and giving them a chance to bloom into the wonderful companions they are 🙂

I am so glad I have a cat in my life once again! It had been far too long without one. Kitties are the best 🙂

There are so many kitties in need these days! It’s wonderful when people consider the less-adoptable cats and give them a second chance. It is great that Hill’s is helping out too.

If I was able to have a cat (Laika is not so nice to them) I’d absolutely adopt an older one (or 2) from the local shelter. It breaks my heart to see so many in need; the Michigan Humane Society is even having trouble finding fosters for all their kittens this summer. There’s a lot of shelters around here waiving their adoption fees as well since there’s so many 🙁

I love senior kitties, and would love to adopt another, but I’m thinking we will end up taking a family members two senior kitty sisters here soon since they can’t afford to care for them… which would bring our pet tally to 9.

Personally, I LOVE the special needs and senior kitties! I will always have a special needs kitty in my life. They are unfortunately seen as less adoptable (it’s so sad!). They are truly wonderful companions. Special needs and senior kitties have so much love to give, and I hope that more people will come to realize all of their fantastic qualities.

Hills is such a great company, and I love their Food, Shelter & Love program! So much great information on their site. Shelters will be inundated with kittens this month as well as puppies through the Summer. Summer is a great time to adopt and save a life!

Now that we are experienced cat owners, we would definitely be open to adopting a senior or adult cat. THanks for sharing!
