“Everyone thinks they have the best dog. And none of them are wrong.”
~ W.R. Pursche
Inspired by the love of dogs, the Daily Dog Tag is a lifestyle blog celebrating the bond between humans and dogs. Dogs love unconditionally. They are there for you through the big events and small moments. Similarly, dogs are our best friends, fur babies, and the best companions ever. Nothing makes me happier than to see dogs included in family portraits since dogs are important family members!
I hope the photos featured here will inspire you to get professional pictures of your dog. We also share quality products and advice to help dogs and the humans who love them live their best lives. And because every dog deserves a loving home, we are happy to feature adoptable dogs too! Rescue is my favorite breed.
These photos are not taken by me (except in rare cases), and this blog would not be possible without the photographers who so generously let me share their images.
Founder and Editor: Beth Patterson
It’s only natural for me to think that dogs should be photographed professionally. My family’s first dog was a sweet Beagle named Suzy. Although she joined the family a year or two after me, I can’t remember life before Suzy. While my older sisters might remember the excitement of getting their first dog, I grew up always having at least one dog in my family.
I gained my appreciation for photography at a young age. My mom is an artist, and my dad was an excellent amateur photographer. We always had great photo-centric books and magazines (especially National Geographic and Life). Receiving our first SLR camera was a teenage rite of passage in our family—most of the money I had as a teen went to film and developing photos. My dogs were my favorite models.
Our family’s only professional photography session included our three dogs.
In 2009 I began collaborating with Alice G Patterson Photography as a studio manager and secondary photographer. I quickly realized that all my favorite photoshoots involved dogs. After realizing that there wasn’t a space online that showcased dog photography, I decided to make one. In 2012, everything came together, and the Daily Dog Tag was launched. It is a place to celebrate, laugh, and even shed a tear or two because, let’s face it: dogs are the best!
While I have lived with dogs for over 50 years, I also had rodents, birds, and fish. Thanks to my five kids, I’ve also shared my life with crayfish, hermit crabs, lizards, rabbits, and tortoises. The Daily Dog Tag occasionally features other pets because while dogs are my favorite, every pet should be treated like family!
The Dogs of Daily Dog Tag
Boss Dog: Nelly
Our Maltese, Nelly, is the oldest of our current pack and wants desperately to be the boss. Nelly is my shadow, and thinks she should be my constant companion. She is quick to tattle on everyone else.
Chief Security Officer: Sophie
She lets us know if there is a squirrel, cat, or human nearby. Very sneaky and intelligent, Sophie loves everyone and has no favorites.
Top Lap Warmer: Theo
Theo joined our family in July 2013 as an adult dog. He wants to be the official taster, but no one will trust his palate. (Garbage and cat poo are high on his list of “must-haves.”) He is the first adult rescue dog I’ve had, and he makes me think that I’ll never get another puppy. Hilarious and generally well-mannered, he loves my kids most of all.

In addition to loving dogs and photography, I am passionate about old houses and watch more HGTV than I should. We live in a 150-year-old house that we have nearly finished renovating. In addition to Nelly, Sophie, and Theo, we have a tortoise, several aquariums, and a goldfish pond. My husband loves old cars and trucks and finally has his ’51 Chevy pickup on the road! Recently, (August 2021), we added a kitten to the family. I am also a plant mom.
