While I wish that every pet could have a portrait session with a professional photographer, I know that isn’t always an option. Snapshots are okay, but most aren’t worthy of hanging on your wall. However, photographer and artist, Mandi Pratt from Greyboy Pet Prints can turn a snapshot into a fine art etching.
When I was in 7th grade, I snapped a photo of my dog that captured her personality perfectly. Sadly, I have no idea where that picture is. Like so many prints often did, it ended up in a drawer or a box and disappeared with time. While I carry the image in my heart, I wish I had the photo itself. It would be perfect to have turned into an etching from Greyboy Pet Prints.
Mandi believes in the beauty of art that lets you feel the texture. She uses traditional techniques from the art of printmaking to honor furry friends in an elegant piece of artwork that will compliment any decor.
I am in awe of crafters and artists, and I love these images of the etching process.
You can read about the process here.
As a pet photographer, some of Mandi’s clients wanted a unique way to remember previous pets that had passed. Others had a particular image they’d like to get off their computer or smartphone and transform into fine art.
Mandi’s artist grandmother and two master printmakers taught her their methods. Her handmade etchings are a beautiful way to remember your special companion forever!
See the furry smiles on her Instagram feed and by following Greyboy Pet Prints on Facebook I think an etching would make a perfect gift!
I’d love to learn how you display and store your favorite images.

Thank you Beth! So beautifully written. I really do feel we are losing the art of the tangible. Digital is great for some things, but a lot of times life moves so fast and things get lost in the shuffle. Anyway, thanks for the great reminder to print and enjoy!

We are creatives and can wholly admire the quality and beauty of this work. Wow, we could not do this without getting messy and smudged. This must be one of the loveliest ways to make a permanent memory of a pet. Thank you for a lovely review and bringing this to our attention!.

Bow wow that first spaniel image had me smitten as a kitten! I store my prints in albums – I am old fashioned and I feel there is something to be said for touching images. I love the process you outlined here. What a way to preserve images!

These are beautiful. I have a pencil sketch of my first cat that one of my 7th grade students drew for me when I was his math teacher. He did a wonderful job and it’s hanging in my house to this day.

Love this! I really enjoyed seeing the process. Such a special way to work with a photograph. As a photographer, my house is decorated with photos of my daughter, Huskies, and landscapes. I love to matte and frame in a variety of sizes (including 20x30s) and even do some up in b&W. 🙂
