Since it is nearly St. Patrick’s Day, my sister Alice and I were talking about easy ways to make shelter dogs feel like they are lucky dogs. I plan on dropping off some supplies to the shelter we adopted Theo from. In preparation, I remembered a simple t-shirt chew toy that my daughter made for our dogs last summer and we decided it would be the perfect thing! Easy and affordable, we made a few extra to give to our own dogs.
Supplies
- Old t-shirts
- Scissors
Directions
Cut the shirts into strips: our’s were approximately 2 inches wide.
Pull the fabric strips taut, this is especially important if you are using a knit fabric.
Sort your strips into 3 strands. (You can put as many strips in as you like depending on the thickness you want.)
Knot the strands together.
Braid.
Tie another knot and trim the ends.
You can add extra knots or tie in a loop for more variations.
Because Theo is an aggressive chewer, we added denim to his.
Alice’s dogs were excited to be the testers! Okay, 2 out of 3 were excited. Franny is always a little unsure of what is going to happen when we take out the cameras.
Although Darla isn’t much of a chewer, she was happy to have a new toy.
Lulu played tug of war like a puppy, while Franny forgot about the cameras and just enjoyed her toy.

What a fabulous idea! My dog would tear that apart in five seconds, but I can see smaller dogs loving it!

I’m so making this! My dog chews up toys so fast, this is cheap and easy way to entertain her and I’m not out a ton of money when she destroys it!
